This is an interesting huipile. The decorative weave area is in very good condition and the pink yarn is either silk or artisela and the rest of the decorative yarns are cotton. One side of the back has a long area of open warp threads where the space was not woven in with weft threads. This was of no consequence to the wearer because it was hidden inside the corte. There are some small pulls and brown stains on the white. There was also a good bit of pink dye transfer to the white areas when the huipile was washed. This running of the red dye is an integral part of Nahuala white textiles and is highly symbolic. It represents a woman’s menstrual flow and thus fertility. 36” W.
