This Nebaj huipile has very ornate woven-in designs totally covering the front and back. This weaving technique is more complex than that of the simpler Nebaj huipile on this page with a black ground. It is quite heavy. (It is colder this high in the mountains.) Stylized animals are woven into the geometric pattern and outlined in white. They also bridge the patterned area and green bottom, which creates a very nice effect. There is a slit in the middle of each side seam which I think might be to allow breastfeeding a baby. There is typical chain-stitch embroidery around the neck and the armhole edges are crocheted. Other than a bit of wear on the neckline, the huipile is in very good condition. 30 1/2” W X 24 1/2”L.
